Common questions

How do I cancel my subscription?

On your device, open Settings, tap your name at the top, then Subscriptions, then Booktrace. Cancelling there stops future renewals. Subscriptions are billed by Apple, so cancellation and refunds go through Apple rather than us.

How do I cancel the free trial?

The same way, and at least 24 hours before the trial ends — otherwise it converts to the paid plan you started it on. The weekly plan's trial is 3 days; the yearly plan's is 1 week.

I paid but the app still asks me to subscribe

Open the paywall and tap Restore purchases. That asks Apple for your purchase history and unlocks the app. Make sure you are signed in with the same Apple Account you bought it on.

Does Booktrace play my audiobooks?

No. Booktrace is a tracker, not a player. You listen in Audible, Spotify, Libby or wherever you already do, and Booktrace keeps the record — your position, your speed, your hours, your narrators. It has no way to play audio and does not sell books.

Why doesn't it sync my position automatically?

Audible, Spotify and Libby do not offer a public way for other apps to read your position, so no third-party tracker can do this — ours included. That is why starting and stopping a session is one tap, why the Live Activity and widget put it on your lock screen, and why you can always log a session after the fact.

The chapters or runtime are wrong

Chapter lists and runtimes come from public audiobook catalogues, and they are sometimes incomplete or wrong — especially for older titles and box sets. You can correct the total runtime on the book's own screen, which fixes the statistics computed from it. If a book is badly wrong, email us the title and narrator.

I logged a session at the wrong time

Sessions can be edited or deleted after the fact from the book's screen. The app is built on the assumption that you will often log a session once you have already parked the car, so nothing needs to be logged live.

The AI chat spoiled something

Sorry — that is the failure the feature is designed around, and it is not perfect. It works by telling the model where you are and instructing it to stay behind that point, which is a strong constraint but not a guarantee. Please email us the book and roughly what it revealed; that is genuinely useful for tuning it. If you would rather not risk it at all, the chat tab is entirely optional and nothing else in the app depends on it.

Can I use the chat without sending my data anywhere?

No. Generating a reply requires sending your message and your position to an AI provider, which is why the privacy policy spells out exactly what goes. Every other feature in Booktrace works without it.

I deleted the app and lost my library

Booktrace stores everything on your device and has no account system, so there is no server copy for us to restore from. We are sorry — this is the direct cost of not collecting anything about you.

Delete my usage data

We hold nothing that identifies you. If you want the anonymous events from your installation removed, email us and we will delete them.
