Is your audiobook membership worth it?

Enter your membership price, the credits it includes, and how many audiobooks you actually finish. See your real cost per audiobook next to buying them individually.

Works with any credit-based membership, including Audible and Chirp. This calculator does not connect to your account or check live pricing — enter your own numbers.

Your membership

Cost per book (membership)

$14.95

Cost per book (buying)

$24.99

Membership saves $10.04 this month.

The simple math

Total monthly cost ÷ audiobooks used

A membership only pays off compared with its included credits. Anything you listen to beyond those credits gets priced at your individual rate, and anything you skip does not count as a saving here.

If you regularly use fewer credits than you're charged for, buying individually — or borrowing from a library app — usually wins on a per-book basis.

Beyond the spreadsheet

Once it's yours, keep it in one place.

Booktrace doesn't track what you spend, but it does keep the book itself — narrator, chapters, sessions, and progress — together, no matter which app or credit paid for it.

  • One library across every audiobook app
  • Sessions and speed remembered per book
  • Listening stats that don't care where you bought it

Common questions

Membership vs. buying, explained

How do I know if a membership is worth it?

Compare the total monthly cost — including anything bought beyond your credits — against buying every audiobook individually.

What if I don't use all my credits?

Enter only the audiobooks you expect to finish. Unused credits don't count as savings until you actually redeem them.

Does this work for Audible, Chirp, or other services?

Yes. Enter any membership price and credit count — it doesn't need to know which service you use.

What about books bought beyond my credits?

Add them to "audiobooks you'll use." They're priced at your individual rate automatically.
